Adult Indian meal moths can be between 8 to 10 mm in length with a 16 to 20 wingspan.  These moths can appear to be reddish brown in color to a bronze or dark gray color. The Indian meal moths feed on a large range of plants, grains, and other human food-based products. These moths will eat many plant-based foods including bird seed, cereal, soup mix, bread, rice, flour, spices, dried fruits and nuts. It is important to discard any foods that have been infested to avoid exposure to bacteria and diseases. Additionally, these infested foods may have larvae that could be accidentally consumed.
